Podium finish in Ralph Latham Memorial at Florence

To kick off the Independence Day weekend with Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS), Garrett Alberson and the Roberts Motorsports team visited Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.) on Thursday afternoon for the 36th annual Ralph Latham Memorial. (Heath Lawson photos)

Following the fourth-fastest lap in his time trial group, Alberson outran Brandon Overton in his heat race to pick up the win. Scoring his best finish with the series in the feature, Garrett carried a steady pace in the 50-lapper to finish third. He followed Josh Rice and Ricky Thornton Jr. across the line with Jason Jameson and Brandon Sheppard completing the Top-5 finishers.

For Friday’s Independence 50 at Portsmouth Raceway Park (Portsmouth, Ohio), Garrett was running in 11th when a late rain shower forced officials to cut the 50-lapper short with five circuits remaining.

With his time trial effort on Saturday at Muskingum County Speedway (Zanesville, Ohio) placing him on the second row of his $3,000-to-win preliminary feature, Alberson gained one spot to finish third.

Starting Sunday’s $30,000-to-win Freedom 60 in ninth via his preliminary finish on Saturday, Garrett dropped two spots in the 60-lap affair to place 11th.

Garrett climbed to seventh in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
