Early leader Alberson finishes fifth in Melvin Joseph Memorial at Georgetown
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) brought Roberts Motorsports and Garrett Alberson to Georgetown Speedway (Georgetown, Del.) on Thursday for the $18,049-to-win Melvin Joseph Memorial.
After sitting out an early rain delay, Garrett topped his 15-car group in time trials with a blistering 17.201-second lap before placing first in his heat. Rolling off on the front row for the feature, Alberson set the pace for the opening 17 circuits before a charging Brandon Overton slid ahead. He held onto a fifth-place finish in the 50-lapper, trailing Ricky Thornton Jr., Overton, Mike Marlar, and Tyler Erb across the line.
To kick off the two-day Rumble by the River on Friday at Port Royal Speedway (Port Royal, Pa.), Alberson rebounded in his preliminary feature with an impressive 23rd-to-6th run after losing ground in his heat race. He earned $300 for claiming the hard charger honors.
On Saturday, Garrett capped off a very successful eastern swing with another top-10 finish in the 50-lap finale. Staring the $50,000-to-win Rumble in River A-Main in 18th via a third-place showing in his heat, Alberson marched forward nine spots to register a ninth-place finish.
Garrett climbed to 11th in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
