Garrett Alberson podiums in Wild West Shootout opener at Vado
Kicking off his 2024 slate in his home state of New Mexico, Garrett Alberson and the Roberts Motorsports team made the 21-hour trek to Vado Speedway Park (Vado, N.M.) for Saturday's Rio Grande Waste Services Wild West Shootout opener.
Drawing 44 Late Models for the 18th running of the annual event, Alberson bagged the overall fast time honors with a 14.231-second lap before scoring a flag-to-flag victory in his heat race. Chasing race-long pacesetter Cade Dillard and Bobby Pierce to the checkers in the 40-lap feature, Garrett rolled to a third-place finish.
On Sunday, Garrett squeezed into the $11,000-to-win A-Main with the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat. Nearly cracking the Top-5 from the eighth row, Alberson advanced through the field nine positions in the 40-lapper to finish sixth.
